I just left when the first Trump term was starting.

So it was wildly different.

Yes, it was very different from now.

And the more time has passed in the last 10 years,

The more politically, I feel that it's very important that as a Mexican that lives in Mexico, I write in Spanish.

And I try, if the United States was to read me, they can figure out how to translate me or how to, but I don't have to do that work and I have to.

It's a beautiful poem.

I knew the poem because Octavio Paz is one of the main poets.

Yeah, of course.

So I knew the poem.

I really loved the poem.

And I think the poem expresses a kind of feeling that I think I was trying to get at with the story too.

I think it's something, the feeling I get reading that poem, that kind of, yeah, of longing.

Yeah.

That I think it's in the middle of the story.

And it is like maybe a civilization longing, but it's also the longing, these two girls,

Like, I think even if the two girls aren't in longing yet, by the end of the story, that's the feeling they are walking towards, right?

Somehow.

So I think for me, that poem helped me know what I was getting to.

So that's why.
