And I really love the titles.

Maybe, but not really.

I think it happened for me at Iowa.

I think before that, even if I had published books, it never felt like it was going to be the thing I chose.

I think for the longest time, like I started writing fan fiction when I was in school and then I wrote novels and it was my hobby and it was the thing I did during the summer holidays.

But I always felt like I had to choose it.

Even if I had written books, even if I have been published, I need to choose to be a writer.

And I think I chose to be a writer during my first semester at Iowa.

I remember it so clearly because I had that question.

Am I going to be a writer?

And it was the last submission I had to give for my prose class.

And all my submissions had been, like, I started very weak because I was writing short stories for the first time.

And I got the hang of it throughout the semester and during the workshop.

And I remember...

At Jotzi Napa, the disappearance of the students had just happened in Mexico.

I wanted to write something about that, but I didn't know how to do it with speculative fiction.

And during a weekend, I got this idea and I started writing.

And I remember Monday night, I needed to turn in the story and I remember...

finishing classes and going to a coffee shop to work on the story and I was kicked out of there like at 11 p.m.

and I went home and I continued working and like at 2 a.m.
