Essentially, the long and short of it is there are folks among UOSA and the city of Manassas that would like to explore podcast-host

diverting some of the treated wastewater and using it for consumptive reuse. podcast-host

And why I emphasize consumptive reuse is it would be reuse of the water that would go away. podcast-host

We use by a large industrial user in most cases. podcast-host

They would leave the water system. podcast-host

None of it would be put back or a very small amount would be put back. podcast-host

That's diminishing how much is in the water supply. podcast-host

I think that Dr. Grant and Siddharth, when they spoke about it earlier, have talked very well and eloquently about how, especially during drought conditions, how, and based on the calculations we got from water, upwards of 90% of the water that's in the water supply during drought conditions is the treated, reused water. podcast-host

So to me, it's... podcast-host

would be worrisome if we allowed some of that water to be diverted, consumptively reused out of the system, and none of it would be brought back. podcast-host

Knowing that there are concerns about water quality, water levels, groundwater, all these other one water system concerns over time, podcast-host

I think that it's not a question of yes or no. podcast-host

It's, hey, if you're going to consider doing some kind of reuse of water supply, there needs to be a conversation among stakeholders that are part of this, right? podcast-host

UOSA is in just the city of Manassas. podcast-host

It includes Prince William County. podcast-host

It includes Fairfax. podcast-host

And so it includes a much larger microcosm of stakeholders. podcast-host

And it isn't, hey, you can't reuse any water. podcast-host

It's just don't do consumptive reuse. podcast-host

Find another way to reuse the water that is put back into the water system at least at the same level of quality and close to the same level of quantity as was taken out before it was diverted out of the water system. podcast-host
