It must be respected above all else.
And the only people who have the right to deny a fellow citizen his liberty or their liberty...
those are fellow citizens.
So by removing the trial of jury, we have basically placed the liberty of people in the hands of the state.
And so I think it's very important to emphasize that a jury of your peers is the only legitimate means of depriving anyone of his freedom, which you might call God given freedom or constitutionally guaranteed rights.
That is my message to the UK, basically.
No, not really.
Most people are fine with it.
They don't see the problem with it.
We are very efficient.
So some people might justify the move to abolish juries with efficiency.
Although I hear from my most specialized lawyers that the Swiss justice system is overloaded with cases and it might soon collapse.
However, that is related to the point which I
said earlier which is our wheels of justice turn very slowly which means there's a backlog of cases which the courts have to go through so it might actually be beneficial to go back to trial by jury but at the moment that is not something we can see as a popular movement
