This is the year that MAGA is going to have its big showdown over what comes next.
And this is happening earlier than I expected.
I think my initial guess going into this year would be that we would get this big fight at the end of Donald Trump's second term.
But as you look around now, these fights are bursting out into the open, kind of all over the place in a way that Trump himself is not only
not really paying attention to but seems kind of uninterested in and uh and for the guy who has wielded this amazing personal power over what what is and is not acceptable in the republican party for all this time um it seemed likely that that you know it would be as he shuffled off the stage uh that that would create the power vacuum for these fights to exist but but because he just sort of seems so caught up in all sorts of other stuff he's more the reason he's not interested in that is because they don't like him anymore
People keep asking how we're all doing.
I feel like the answer you settle on is like, other than everything, doing great.
Other than basically every single indicator, every single news story, staying buoyant, staying a buoyant.
I don't know.
We're hanging out.
Yeah, I feel like what we've seen out of this tariff story is it feels like a real throwback to the first term Trump presidency.
Right.
And in a lot of ways, in a lot of ways, it's worse.
But in this particular respect, I mean, you always had all of the palace intrigue, all of the interpersonal drama, the stuff that was, you know, the jockeying behind the scenes going into this White House, going into the second administration.
There was sort of this narrative, this assumption that that, you know,
he had a new kind of crack hand at the tiller and Susie Wiles, his new chief of staff, someone who was going to keep everybody rowing in the same direction.
Um, for the most part that has, that has proven somewhat true.
I mean, it has not been quite as leaky this, this time around as the first time around.
The problem is that, that, you know,
real kind of civilizational crisis like this trade war that the Trump White House has provoked out of nowhere, that tends to rattle some things loose.
