Do that same uh exercise when you look at the US and you look at the top fifty companies in the US and ask yourself how many of those uh were around fifty years ago, and you would get a vastly different answer.

You know, drivers of economic activity and creating uh national wealth and productivity.

for how the national economy is doing.
This year's been harder for Australians and for Australian businesses and therefore it's right that it was been harder for us as well.
Uh it is tough out there.
Um
Uh we've also seen uh uh margin pressure, particularly in our retail business and home lending.
Uh large amounts of home lending now in Australia is done through the broker channel.
Uh you know, there's economic uh involved in that because obviously brokers participate in the economics of mortgage that they help originate, uh, and that's making it harder for
For banks like us to get an appropriate return for our shareholders.
It's good that at NAB we're a business bank at heart, and eighty percent actually of our cash earnings are outside of Australian retail.
