It's it's we need um to drive more productivity.

Productivity is the single biggest driver of living standards over time.

Uh and we have not had improvements in productivity over a number of years in Australia.

Uh and that's a problem because you know this is probably one of the greatest countries in the world to live over the last 100 years, and we've

created incredible wealth for our citizens.

But the question then is what's the next hundred years going to look like for us and will uh our children and their children have the same uh quality of life and growth and living standards that we have had?

And and in order for that to happen we need more productivity in our country.

Um and you know I come down to how easy is it to start

And grow a business, how easy is it to hire staff?

How easy is it to expand?

And the truth of the matter is it's hard here.

And I when I speak to our customers up and down the country, they constantly um highlight impediments and uh and rules and things that make it difficult for them to grow their business.

And I think that's gotta be something that we lean into as a country.

I think that's certainly the case in my experience.

Um from a banking sector, it's harder to lend money in Australia than it was in Canada.

Um, you know, I think uh from a housing, you know, I had to personally build a large uh deck in my home in Canada and I I did that at uh a property that we purchased i in Australia a couple of years ago and the complexity of planning

permission uh and uh building permits.

Uh it was magnitudes more challenging here in Australia than what I encountered pre COVID in Canada.

And you know, and Canada's a pretty developed, safe, sophisticated country.

We're not talking about uh third world construction methods and the gap
