My house, because I rented a property over in Lyttelton, that house was damaged, so we had to move out.
Luckily, I had an empty rental property that I moved into, but we had no furniture, so we were sleeping on the floor at that stage, couldn't get into our apartment, get any of our clothes or anything out.
At that time, I remember thinking I've got, I think, maybe 13 properties, all in Christchurch.
Tenants were leaving.
We didn't know whether or not you're going to get insurance paid out or what that would look like.
And I remember thinking, how stupid am I as a financial advisor that I put all my eggs in one basket?
Yeah, you thought you were diversifying by having multiple properties, but they're all still in one location.
100%.
And because you never think about these things until after they happen.
And it could have very easily been the unwinding of what I built to that date.
No, I think COVID was probably worse now that I've gone through both of those just because of the uncertainty.
It was a slow process.
And I think because we were displaced in our own house, it made it even worse because you can't even go home and relax at night.
But we were going to move, my partner and I at the time, we're going to move to Wellington.
