Most of my clients were a bit different.
They wanted to be more hands-off.
They didn't want to take on any extra risk if they could avoid it.
So...
that's why the new bill kind of worked a bit better plus, you know, at that stage there were LVR restrictions coming in and so people wanted to put less of their money into an investment.
When the interest deductibility rules came in and I did the numbers on my portfolio, that was a real problem.
What I didn't want to have happen is assume that National would come in and repeal it, which is what happened, and then end up having a massive tax bill because you didn't have the money to pay that tax bill.
You had to find that from somewhere else because essentially you were on paper making a profit
Yes, you're insolvent.
And so I did a big clear out of that stage.
That probably coincided with a lot of my properties that were renovated getting a bit tired as well.
And so some of the renovation, the maintenance bills were huge.
Like I think one year I paid like a few hundred thousand in maintenance and that was getting pretty hard.
Yeah, that's a good question.
Shares, I don't know very much about.
I opened a shares account recently just to trial it out.
And I put some money in a fund.
So far, I'm down, I think, 13%.
So I'm not going very well.
I have engaged someone now to manage my money for me.
