Much of the opposition to this legislation had to do with the ministries themselves, which critics had said they were discriminatory and unethical.

Rather, Republicans say that their bills is an alternative to traditional health insurance.

The regulatory aspects, or lack thereof, were what fueled Governor Laura Kelly's veto.

Republicans very quickly overrode her decision, arguing that Kansans should have more options in their health care decisions.

State fiscal staff, this is important to note, I think, estimated that the state would lose more than about $3 million, I think, as a result of the bill.

The second veto override, also healthcare related, had to do with crisis pregnancy centers, which are also called crisis, excuse me, pregnancy resource centers.

These are facilities that pose as healthcare clinics and are usually run by anti-abortion organizations, and they operate under the premise of dissuading people from

from seeking abortions.

This bill, House Bill 2635, was vetoed by Governor Kelly.

It shields centers from regulation and incentivizes legal challenges against people who violate existing restrictions on abortion.

Governor Kelly referenced the 2022 vote in which Kansans preserve the constitutional right to an abortion as part of her reasoning for the veto.

Again, very quickly, within hours this time, the legislature overturned Kelly's veto maintaining that pregnancy resource centers provide vital services.

There was some bell ringing involved in both of these videos, which I can let Sherman talk about.

But again, these were just the first of more among the first of more that we're expecting.
