Well, I'll tell you this much now, right?
A fellow from my county, he was the leader of Fianna Fáil.
His name was Jack Lynch.
And he decided, in his wisdom, to cuss and tell the people that they wouldn't be paid any taxes on their property and that kind of stuff.
And...
killed the local authorities.
They were starved of funding.
And that's not a good thing for me to say because I'm from Cork.
But it was the Cork man who did it.
He starved the local authorities of money.
And every government that came after him, Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael, Labour, the Greens, whoever it was, starved local authorities of money.
They just gave them enough money.
Well, my attitude has always been that the key issue in relation to water charges is that the water should not go into private hands.
So I don't object to praying for excessive use of water.
So, for example, if you had Irish Water as a fully state company,
So what I would love to see is a referendum in the country to say that Irish water will never be privatised.
And, you know, I listened to that man just on before me there.
And what was very interesting to me is him talking about environmental damage caused by water waste.
