You don't see that money.
It doesn't come to you.
It's a tax program, right?
Or a 529 college savings account, the same thing.
But if you're a low-income person, you probably have to go to a welfare office.
You might have to fill out a form that is dozens of pages long, and you might have to fill it out by hand, or you might have to do it on a really clunky.

And so it's really obvious to you if you're low income, and it's really not obvious to you if you're high income.
And yes, this is hitting low income people harder than high income people.
It's hitting women harder than men.
Yeah, women are the disproportionate users of the most burdensome programs.
They are lower income, they're more likely to be taking care of kids and to be single parents.
And, you know, they're the majority users of every safety net program.
And then there's some other, right?
Like people who are not native-born citizens, people with a history of interactions with the criminal justice system, and non-white people, particularly black people, uh face heavy burdens, disproportionate burdens.
