I know that there was a few people who got up at 2 o'clock in the morning, the squad announcement was, hoping to hear my name, so to know that I have that support over on the other side of the world, in my other home, is pretty special and means a lot to me.
I think we dislike the French football team more and the All Blacks dislike the French rugby team more.
I reckon I'd put it at that.
And I think there's a good chance that the German football team might meet the French football team in the round of 16 or something.
Or whatever it is.
So when it gets to that stage, yeah, I won't like them for two reasons.
um obviously you're coming in on the back of another european export yeah similar kind of story in fabian yeah you guys get along right yeah 100 do you give each other a bit of grief no no not at all i mean at the at the camp that we had uh last week we gave each other a bit of friendly banter around the football world cup and and the dutch obviously struggled in their first game but then i think now in their second game i think they did a whole lot better um so yeah it's only for friendly banter i remember driving actually
from Wellington to Palmerston North in a car with him when we attended.
It was either schools or under-20s came together and in that drive up here, that's where we really got to know each other and it's obviously an interesting conversation having gone a similar journey.
Seeing him make the All Blacks is a special feeling for myself as well and I'm extremely proud of him and just hope that he's recovering well from his shoulder to get him back out there as soon as possible.
Yeah, somewhat.
Over the years it's obviously gathered its fair bit of media attraction and that's the way that I get my name out there.
But football's obviously the main sport over there.
Like rugby players are here, football players in Germany, they are the gods and they are the big dogs over there.
So hopefully with what I can do over here, I can grow the sport back home as well because that's a big reason as to why I'm over here and giving it a good crack.
um somewhat i know that um there's four rugby clubs i believe in a town called heidelberg which is an hour away from frankfurt and i think that's because that's where the english settled during during during the war um so i know that that's a rugby or the most rugby crazy town um in germany um and yeah i know that the seventh team um is going good as well especially now that it's becoming
Olympic sport that's that's gathered a bit more interest from the public so yeah I think slowly but certainly the game is making progress back home but yeah it's obviously tough because it's got a couple of other sports that it as competitors like football and whatnot so yeah but again hopefully with what I'm doing over here I can do my part in terms of growing the sport back home.
I think that game time plays a big role to be honest.
I think you can do, and I think Djibba can agree with me here, that you can do as much training as you want as a rugby player.
At the end of the day, actually playing rugby is the best training you can do for it.
