But if you use a child's hand, what's really useful there is that their hand is proportionate to them.
So it tends to be a good way to measure against them.
That could be something like if it's a small piece of fruit, it'd be two of those.
An apple, for example, a couple of tablespoons worth of your peas or a couple of heads of broccoli there.
Yes, that's a really good question.
No, whatever way they'll take it is great, particularly when it comes to vegetables.
So mashing them there, unless you've kind of cooked them to within an inch of its life, then that would be kind of losing some nutrients.
But really mashing them is perfectly fine.
And if it's better accepted, why not?
When we're thinking about fruit, when we kind of blitz fruits up and put them into juices and smoothies,
It does somewhat have a more pronounced effect on, say, rising our blood sugars.
But again, not something I want parents to fuss too much about.
I'd rather them have more whole foods where possible.
But if a smoothie is a good way to get some lovely berries and fruit and other foods like that in there, then why not as well?
Exactly.
And remember that what we're trying to do here is kind of build habits that the children are going to bring into their adulthood.
So the more fruit and veg that kids have when they're younger, the more likely they are to bring this forward and eat these as adults too.
So it's just about that exposure to these fruits and veg.
And again, whole foods where possible tend to be better.
But if it comes as a more mash or a smoothie form in some scenarios, not all the time, then that's absolutely no harm.
