A lot of them are volunteer only.

or they may have no paramedics.

So you may be having to wait longer for someone to pick you up, and they may have slightly less training to help you if it's a really serious emergency.

So it's kind of similar to Medicaid where there's these disproportionate impacts.

So first of all, rural residents are expected to see a higher increase to their monthly premium payments.

And then the same pattern is going to happen.

Okay, so if you go uninsured, or maybe you do enroll, but...

you can't afford the co-pays.

So you, again, avoid that preventative care, avoid the minor care.

Then you're going to end up needing the more expensive care.

So it's kind of the same impact with Medicaid.

There's also a really interesting story my coworkers wrote, which is how Native American tribes are being impacted by the increase in cost.

So tribes can, there's this program where they can help cover the cost of their citizens' plans.

So like helping to pay those monthly premiums.

But some tribes are now having to limit eligibility due to those rising costs.

So if people lose coverage, then the Indian Health Service facilities will have to pick up the tab

So it just, again, it creates this massive chain.

And I mean, this is relevant to rural America because a lot of these programs are used for tribal members who specifically live on reservations, many of which are in very, very rural areas.

I think that based on my reporting, I think the home visiting programs are really helpful and also mobile programs.

A lot of states want to expand community paramedics, which is basically allowing paramedics to treat people at home, not just when there's an emergency.
