It was.
It was one of the things I really was excited about this project.
When I spoke with Oscar earlier,
probably about maybe almost a year before we started shooting.
That's right, Oscar Boyson, co-writer and director.
And he was really excited by the idea of me playing Solomon, as was I, because it was so different from other roles I tackled, both in terms of how he looked and how he kind of moved and being from Texas, but also his kind of his rage and his frustration and his volatility.
wasn't something that I'd really got to sink my teeth into in other roles I'd had.
And it's not something that I particularly, as Ace, have a lot of experience with.
So it was really interesting figuring out why I sometimes struggled to connect with those emotions and then finding Solomon's connection to those emotions.
And it was amazing.
We shot it in Texas, so we were surrounded by real Texans.
A lot of the supporting actors in the film are non-actors.
They're just people we found either in Solomon's trailer park or in the pawn shop.
And it gave me such a grounding of where he was in this place and the people he would be with.
It just totally lent that energy to my performance.
One of the big things for Oscar was about class and about this divide in America.
He always says he thinks it's the most rich and fascinating topic in American filmmaking is class.
And that was a big thing for him.
He didn't want to make it sort of too black and white, but to have these ends of the spectrum meet in quite a
