You know, the Constitution protects free speech.

It doesn't protect a threat to kill someone.

But there are many even conservative critics of the indictment who say there isn't strong evidence to prove beyond a reasonable doubt

that James Comey committed this crime.

And so when they see Todd Blanch pursuing these types of charges and defending them, they interpret that action from Blanch as a sign that he is really acting as the president's henchman, so to speak, someone who's just going to execute the agenda of Donald Trump.

This so-called anti-weaponization fund is another example.

It was a fund that many critics feared would be used to benefit Trump supporters who were convicted of crimes during the January 6th Capitol attack.

And now Todd Blanchett said the fund isn't going forward because of bipartisan

backlash against the fund, but it was something he was willing to pursue.

And that's another example that gives critics alarm about whether Todd Blanch is really going to adhere only to the Constitution and kind of impartial judgment of how the Justice Department should operate, or whether he's going to pursue Donald Trump's personal agenda.

It is a bit uncertain.

There are a couple of Republicans that at least early on were refusing to commit to how they would vote on Blanche's nomination.

Tom Tillis, John Cornyn, these are Republicans who will not be serving in the Senate going forward after the upcoming elections.

And so there isn't complete certainty about how the vote will go, but it does still seem likely that Republicans

are going to largely get behind Blanche.

And as you pointed out, even if they don't, there's at least a legal argument about the fact that Blanche was the deputy attorney general.

He was confirmed to that position by the Senate.

And this isn't something that has been tested very carefully in court, but it seems like he could.

possibly continue to act as the acting attorney general to exercise these sorts of duties, even if he didn't get Senate confirmation.
