I write in my book that the only thing that connects me to my brother is our trauma.
Like we grew up in the same house but we weren't close by any means.
And we're just surviving.
And I think even my dad too, like I feel like everyone in our house was just living in these very isolated little units.
Like we never really, I never felt like a family.
I never felt safe, warm, loved.
It wasn't like that was the place that I would go to that's, you know, your anchor in the world where you're like this is where I belong.
And it's only taken me I think in the last couple of years that I feel like I finally found like my anchors in the world where I'm like, oh, this is where I belong.
Yeah.
I mean school was kind of fun.
Like I had some sneaky little boyfriends at school and that was fun.
Well, because I think there was this part of me that was like I was in the cult because I had no choice, right?
But I think there was this part of me that knew that that wasn't really authentically who I was or who I wanted to be.
And when I started school at 10, I might not have been super book smart, but I was really socially smart and I think I was very adaptable and I very quickly learnt what was acceptable and what was cool.
And I write about how for like a whole year I pretended to like Metallica because that's –
You know, that was a really cool girl that I really liked.
You know, so I was like, okay, that's what I'll do and I'll just, you know, so I was very good at like assimilating.
And, yeah, the most bizarre thing for me was that 10-year-olds had boyfriends and I'd been told that you only dated someone at 18 and you were to marry them.
And that was fun for a couple of years because, you know, when you're,
that age it's very like your friend goes and asks them and they come back and they you know it's you don't really have it's not like a normal boyfriend girlfriend experience and then it wasn't your parents knew oh my gosh no no and I don't know what they I know I definitely would have gotten a ton of trouble I don't know what they would have done in those earlier years but I definitely think as I became a teenager I think I would have been kicked out of the house like I think I would have been kicked out of the church I would have been kicked out of the house
