And anyway, I met my ex at this church camp and he seemed kind of cool.

He was a bit cocky and, you know, seemed really independent and kind of funny and cheeky.

And I was like, yeah, like I think maybe I could stay and I could have something a little different, you know, and I could be happy.

And I think he seems like just a little outside of the lines that I think maybe I could have my cake and eat it too.

You know, I could stay, not have to lose everything, not have to start all over again.

And so ultimately he had to ask his dad and his pastor just to ask me out.

No one even talked to me.

And we couldn't even really talk to each other even prior to officially dating.

Like there was no like, hey, can I just take you on a date and just see what the vibe is?

Like it was kind of just a, you had to kind of just know that you were mutually interested, but you couldn't really have any conversations.

And so, yeah, then he had to ask his dad, his pastor, my dad, my pastor, four men who knew really nothing about me.

To ask me artificially.

And then it got to me and then it was like by that point I'd actually already had two boyfriends within the cult and that was really unheard of.

Like most people would date and marry the first person.

And so I remember the pastor took me aside and he was basically like, you've got to marry this guy.

And so I felt that pressure, but I also just kind of, I wanted so desperately to get away from my parents.

And so he kind of just stood for freedom.
