The Blue Jays don't have holes that they need to improve.
But I think that this is a dire situation.
This is like rounding errors and judges' decisions that could have gone either way kept them off the bottom of the list.
And they're just not at the point in the competitive window where they have a young superstar.

I think it's pretty good.
I like being a team that is very likely to sell in a market with uncertain sellers.
And I like having a playoff-capable starting pitcher that you're interested in trading.
Because...
I think the market will be a little slow at first as teams figure out if they're getting Tarek Skubal, which makes sense.
Like if you can trade for Tarek Skubal, you probably will not trade for Kevin Gausman.
Or like once you acquire Skubal, that probably ends your ace pitcher acquisitions.
But Gausman is like a pretty interesting pitch for guys who are like teams are scraping the bottom of the barrel for having enough starters to pitch in the playoffs.
And I don't think there's any question that Gaussman is capable of it.
So, I mean, that one just seems like an obvious place where the Jays are in a good position because a lot of teams are already in a mindset of like, I can trade some minor leaguers to get a proven veteran who will be gone after this year.
They've already done the math to determine for themselves that they can do it because they're looking at Scooble, but only one team's getting Scooble.
And that, I think, sets up Gaussman well and the Jays well as kind of like the second wave
