Can you use that whilst reading her work and employ it in the language of art making?
I wanted to ask you about Jane Eyre because again, going back to New Zealand, I know you read Jane Eyre in New Zealand, and in fact it provided the title for the White Cube show which was I Set Out, I Walk Fast.
Why Jane Eyre in particular?
I mean we talked about the elemental elements and of course the famously the Bronte's right with an incredible kind of elemental power.
Was that what it was?
Was it something to do with environment or was it also about something to do with Jane in particular?
through the book.
It's it's deeply gothic and yeah.
Yeah, absolutely.
You already mentioned Bach, but what music or other audio do you listen to while you're working?
But it's interesting that you're not listening to it while you're working, but as you said earlier on, you know, you're using the kind of modes, the kind of structures of Bach's work in the studio later.
It's not while it's actually being made, but there is something about that structure and the thinking about that structure that you can bring to the studio after you've been listening elsewhere.
You've drawn equivalence or parallels between the human voice and colour, and I love this, that the sound of a human voice has an abstraction which is somehow equivalent to our experience of colour and that sort of unnamability that we were talking about before.
Would you say a bit more about that?
But you have made music, right?
So I mean in certain works you have employed sound elements to embellish that.
I mean, Von der Bilt was originally not accompanied by music, but then there was a piece you you worked on with Stefan Schneider, I think, where you added sound to that work.
Oh fantastic.
And what does the work need from that music, if you like?
