Right, well, maybe more so, yeah.
So, yeah, I guess there are different levels of forensic inquiry going on.
There's a formal one going on, but also a textual and subject matter-based forensic quality, yeah.
But it's interesting in terms of the way that the work has developed, that in a way what you have been able to do through this incredible years-long project is develop a kind of way of thinking and a way of making, and multiple modes of making, which have actually now morphed into a means of exploring other histories.
And there are really rich histories which are now entered into your work, which it seems to me are the kernels of potentially other years-long projects.
You've said, haven't you, that text has been tremendously important, but drawing is the sort of fundament of so much of what you do, right?
It remains that sort of fundamental core activity that can prompt you to move in other directions.
I mean, we're surrounded by drawings in your studio now.
Yes.
I referred to the means of drawing as forensic earlier on.
Is that sort of incredibly fine?
And I imagine quite risky process of drawing with ink on paper is.
also something about the kind of nature of long thinking if you know what i mean in that i imagine it takes an enormous amount of time to do these things you know we're talking not just a day we're talking months sometimes i mean there's one work in venice i think it's the first work i've done on canvas yeah it took five months it wasn't just me my wife was helping me i had an assistant sometimes my kid would be running around and she wasn't drawing but she was present
Yeah.
But is it also a sort of retreat space, if you know what I mean?
Because you do navigate a really complex world, a world of politics.
Can you also, yes, think through your subject matter, but also retreat into drawing in a way?
excessively remember if that makes sense yeah yeah absolutely returning to pasita obviously you're now curator for the estate that must have been a really interesting transition from her being this almost mythical figure that enters your world occasionally as a child into adulthood and now a level of responsibility towards translating her ideas and so on so tell us about that transition
That must have been in a way constructive.
But you talked about sort of elegiac elements or mournful elements in terms of the works in the past.
