So were you able to access because your work seems to me to be very firmly in the traditional of the environmental art course and the context is 50% of the work and so on you know.
So did you sort of gravitate towards a different scene begin with painting but then gravitate towards other media or were you very firmly within the kind of painting tradition at that point?
Like I think, yeah, I remember seeing all those amazing sort of artists run spaces in people's houses.

Which writers or poets do you return to?
You use that as a kind of preface to your essay, don't you?
I mean, as well as obviously corresponding with your feelings of grief towards Dina, your mum, was there also that sense in which, you know, you identified with the writer being the child of political figures, being the child of activists, people that were involved in the fundamental day-to-day importance of their country, you know?

You know, there's a spine of a Tijico.
writes marvelously about art as well yes yeah has that you know one of the things that emerges through having done lots of these podcasts now is that there are writers who are artists writers and there's an implicit understanding of art and writing as activities that are separate but not unrelated if you're not i mean it's very clear that you know you are both writing and making art you know they are not unrelated entirely yeah they have a corresponding entwined yeah
Yeah.
but also you're part of a tradition of conceptual art.
You know, your work has very different characteristics to a lot of the kind of pure conceptualism of the 1970s, say.
But it seems to me you're undoubtedly part of a conceptual tradition of conceptual art.
But that's a whole other area of fascination.
So many great exhibitions that artists never saw have informed great works of art.
Yeah, amazing.
What music or other audio do you listen to while you're working?
I was going to say, I mean, you know, because of this incredibly intricate nature of the drawing, there must be a certain level of accompaniment that you need.
And, OK, you mentioned that sometimes Francis accompanies you with your drawings, but when Francis isn't here, I can imagine you might need company when you're in that lonely space of just, you know...
