Now, that could potentially be a little bit complicated.
Gnarly and difficult because you might go into a young person might go into a shop that serves alcohol and other things like like a supermarket or four squares, something like that.
That is a slightly more difficult case.
However, when it's a bottle shop, it should be fairly straightforward.
When it's a bar, it should be fairly straightforward.
And you can imagine technical fixes where the merchant, it's flagged to the merchant that the card has been issued to an under 18 year old.
And then the merchant is on notice and the merchant would say, sorry, I can't serve you unless you can produce ID for me.
And of course, they wouldn't be able to.
No, I'm tempted to be cheeky and say I don't really care.

Banks are very profitable.
And while we don't want them wasting money on things that are nice to have, not essentials, I think that this is an essential.
I think it's part of their social license to operate.
just don't think their cards should be able to use them in a bottle shop, a bar, or a vape center.
It's a straightforward bottom line.
And if their systems are too poor to actually do that, they need to invest in them anyway to get them up to a level there where they can meet their social obligations.
Well, yes.
The first thing I'd say here is these are businesses run by people.
And it is fair to say that as I sat in the Auckland District Court at the Alcohol Licensing Regulatory Authority hearings, and these are hearings about whether they should be entitled to keep their licences.
Some of those business owners were very upset.
