And you must be said, in some ways, I'm very grateful that the Labour Party hasn't subjected us to a leadership contest, because actually, if you give the members the option, well, then you get the Liz Trusses and the Jeremy Corbyns of the world.

I don't think anybody thought it would unravel the Starmer as quickly as it has.
Because on some level, I think people thought there was at least going to be a bit of steel there.
There was going to be a disciplinarian who had got to grips with the left of the party and would whip them into shape.
The problem is, I think the Tories imploded that little bit too quickly.
He wasn't ready.
He had no chance then of turning around to his backbenchers and going...
we are spending rather a lot on welfare, maybe we should think about cutting a little bit because there are that many of them who are still in that position of going, we're a rich country, we can absolutely spend whatever we want on welfare, because that's very much what the people in my constituency want.

I don't think anybody thought it would end quite as quickly as it did for Starmer, perhaps with the benefit of hindsight and those fundamentals being as they are, we should have expected it to be quite difficult for him.
But as we say, Burnham, he's not that kind of disciplinarian.
