Yeah, and I think that's my criticism.
It felt like it was a very tight, good article in the New Yorker.
And those New Yorker articles can be, they're long, right?
They're long-term essays.
That was great.
And I was really umming and ahhing about buying the book, and then so many people loved it, so I did buy it.
And I actually thought I didn't need the book, because I felt a lot of his diversions were kind of interesting in their own right.
They were that.
They were diversions.
They were diluting whatever the central thesis was, which I really didn't know, like you, by the end, what it was.
And a lot of it, I felt, was quite dodgy, right?
Like, what are you trying to say, dude?
Like, you're making out that, you know, the East African Asian guy who was in the flat world, his father came here as a first-gen immigrant, and he was a bullshit artist to con people.
And then, you know, let's look at Zach Brettler's family.
Well, you know, he had an ancestor who made out to be this like good guy, but actually was lying about what he did in England after he came here after the Holocaust.
And I was just like, that's just immigrants, dude.
We have to fight and scrabble and we don't have CVs that are impeccable.
That's just how people who were traumatized often.
And just because there are one or two, I just felt like,
What are you trying to say about immigrants?
