And I sometimes feel that a Democratic Party does triangulate that a little bit, that they are trying to not offend the white supremacists out there so that they have a chance of getting their vote.
So if what I'm saying is true and what you believe is true.
There's no easy answer for the Democratic Party.
They have represented the rights of minorities.

So I agree with you fundamentally that what Trump's voters are in it for is what he's going to do to the people they hate.
I mean, the historian in me does want to say we've had plenty of political violence in our time.
What the Palmer raids were in response to after war was a series of actual bombings, you know.
So I don't want to go too far with political violence being new in the United States.
I mean, in some respects, there may be more political violence in the United States than in your average democracy for all kinds of reasons, but...
That's why I think the bigger picture is, what is this dispute all about?
And what it is ultimately about is the Declaration of Independence.
And I think, again, I just feel like the big picture of this is being missed, which is, this is an assault, not so much on the Constitution, but on the Declaration, the Trump movement is an assault on the Declaration of Independence and its principles.
And they have gone back to what many conservatives have
felt since the dawn of the Republic, which is the Declaration of Independence was wrong and it was a mistake.
And if you look at that, and you know this perfectly well, if you look at the intellectual sort of leaders of the Trump movement, whether it's Patrick Deneen or Adrian Vermeule or Russell Vaught and Stephen Miller, it is very much an assault on the principle of universal equality.
