And so it kind of died off.

And that's because it's life started as a competition piece, not a house staple and like some big chain like Drader Bix or Beachcombers, right?

And it never got mass distribution through menus and books.

It relied on ingredients that didn't necessarily survive the dark ages of tiki very well, right?

So a decent falernum, passion fruit, and orgeat.

Those things kind of went away when people stopped loving on tiki because orgeat is just like it's very present in a lot of those things, as is falernum.

So when those syrups kind of turned into fluorescent shortcut products or disappeared from bars altogether, the drink just kind of...

Fell apart.

So the tiki falls out of fashion in the 70s, in the 80s, and this relatively niche gin drink, you know, is just not in every bartender's manual, just doesn't have much of a chance.

So for a couple of decades, right, this thing was just vanished, right, except for maybe those who really were in the know.

So then you get this like resurrection story, right?

So Jeff Beachbum Berry is the person most responsible.

Of course.

For bringing the Saturn back.

Berry spends years tracking down lost tiki recipes.

He's interviewing old bartenders.

He's buying up old menus and stuff.

And he's trying to reconstruct the forgotten drinks of tiki.

And one story is that Barry and others have kind of told this story along with him that he obtained this souvenir glass with Saturn on it and then a recipe printed below it.

Oh, this actually becomes a key clue when, you know, you kind of he cross checks with other people from the old scene, most notably this other bartender named Bob Esmino, who had firsthand knowledge of late mid century tiki bars.
