actually stole one of his players he didn't talk to me for two years got him and his son and then i brought actually when he was at uh montana i brought his last two defensive coordinators with him as well so we've had the last three play callers uh on on championship teams uh come and join us so i hired four head coaches during this training i brought nine head coach or brought nine new coaches into the building four of those guys have been head coaches you might remember this name too um

I said this to him when I hired him.

I hired a guy by the name of Tyrone Wheatley, a great running back.

He had been a head coach at two different spots.

I said, listen, I've hired a lot of guys.

I never hired somebody that I couldn't tackle his ass in the back.

So he's been a great transition.

Jared Elliott is my tight ends coach, been a head coach at Western Illinois, at Ball State.

I know you like those as well.

So we've really done a nice job of just bringing people in the building with great success.

Yeah, well, I'm glad they're not at Iowa anymore.

I'm glad they're with the Bears, and I'm glad he's not at Purdue anymore and is at the Bears.

But here's the first thing.

So I've been head coach 18 years.

I've always gone –

to a spring ota with my coordinators we go all around the nfl and i've never gone to the bears oh wow and uh ian cunningham and i are very very close uh a great dude and um i talked to him about going last year we didn't make it happen and obviously he went to atlanta right but um uh this year i was looking at going to three places i was looking at going to the seahawks uh the bills or the bears and and uh schedule just didn't work for those other two and i hit ian up and he

connected me with Ben Johnson.

I've met Ben before, but not been close.

So he connected us.

Ben literally hit me up that night, said, come up, we can do whatever we can.
