Um, and not everybody is.
Most people by default are carbohydrate based.
So glucose, glycogen, carbohydrate fuel based, meaning that to run off fat, your body isn't used to doing it.
So you can't flick that switch and tap into either body fat stores or dietary fat and utilize it for fuel.
Whereas I've spent the last 12 or 18 months
Conditioning my body to become a lot more fat adapted.
And the way I did that, and one of the ways I did that, was I do all my workouts fasted.
So I'll sip on branching amino acids before I train, and I'll take a little bit of a pre-workout that I've made myself, which is normally a combination of citrillian malate, beta alanine, and caffeine, or a combination of you know, several other ingredients like L-carnitane or green tea extract mixed in.
With that, and I'll take that before I train, and then I'll do my entire workout, which could be a three or four hour workout based on the day, and I'll do all of that fasted.
And what that does is it makes me a lot more metabolically flexible and gets my body used to training in a fasted state, which was came in very useful because at mile 15 um I had a little bit of stomach issues, which I'll get on to later, meaning that I couldn't eat for quite a long period of time.
And what would have taken somebody else out, a more glucose, glycogen, carbohydrate-based athlete who needs the fuel to run and move, I didn't.
So I got lucky in that sense that I had made myself fat adapted, that I could run for, I think it was nearly 20 miles without any food.
Um, I think from mile 20 to mile 45, I just ran it without food because I couldn't stomach anything.
And that was an advantage of training the way that I trained in the lead up to it.
So my preparation was that was pretty much it in a nutshell.
I that was my training.
I I kept all my hypertrophy work.
I kept my nutrition fasted training sessions and then mostly plant based with a slight increase in meat for this actual event.
Where when I prepped for the Arctic last year and I prepped for
Marathon Desab the year before, I was trying to reduce some of my size and trying to bring down some of my muscle.
