which was when you're out and exposed to the cold, and it got as cold as minus 38 on the coldest day.
And when you're exposed to that kind of cold, frostbite is a real risk.
And effectively, several people who have ran through the Arctic or Antarctica on the other side have lost fingers and toes because of frostbite.
It comes on very, very quickly.
You get what's called frost nip first, and then frostbite takes over.
And then before you know it, you've lost your finger or your toe or your ears or your nose, which are other potential conditions.
weak points that can give you a problem if exposed to the cold for prolonged periods of time.
And I identified frostbite as a major thing.
So I made sure my kit covered my fingers and toes particularly.
So I had three sets of gloves.
My gloves were like more expensive than my shoes.
My outer shell gloves were like 150 euro because I was so wary of frostbite being a problem.
And that puts you out, you know.
I made the decision before this race that...
similar to the Sahara, that I was going to either leave in an ambulance or a helicopter or I was going to finish.
And that commitment, these things, I get asked regularly, how can you set up these challenges and do it?
And it's completely relative because you listening may have a completely different challenge.
It may be showing up a different way in a relationship.
It may be getting up an hour earlier.
It may be prepping your meals the night before.
