My first ever run was a two-kilometer run that I thought I was going to get sick.

That was in August of 2017.

That was not that long ago.

And I just got back from the Arctic after running 230 kilometers, 86 of which was on a torn Achilles.

You build mental strength.

You build it by doing the right things every day.

But you have to identify if you're weak in areas, fucking own that.

There's nothing wrong with being weak, but there's something wrong if you are weak and you're not owning it and making a decision to control and change it.

Own it, control it, and change it.

That was the only difference.

And the reason I get animated and the reason my voice gets more fired up when I say this is because if you had told me,

five years ago, six years ago, seven years ago, that I would do these challenges or I would do these things, I would look at you like you're crazy because I wasn't mentally strong enough.

I didn't have the belief in myself, but it comes making a decision to own the fact that you're fucking weak in some area of your life and you can choose to change it and make yourself stronger by doing the right things every day.

When...

Somebody asked, how tough mentally was it to do the run?

I told them that it was 80% mental.

And that's a very accurate description of the Pareto distribution, 80% mental, 20% physical.

And the reason I said 80% mental was because if you've ever ran a marathon or you've ever ran a 10K or you've ever done a leg workout where you were really sore after running,

or you've ever done any new training program where your body responds and you're in pain, you're going to be sore.

And the day one was 50 to 60 kilometers.
