You're broken.

I was broken by day two.

That's so much distance in an unfamiliar terrain with elements that you're not used to dealing with.

I live in the west of Galway, in the west of Connemara, out in Galway, in the middle of, you know, there's 200 people in my little village.

And I'm not used to snow.

I'm not used to ice.

I'm not used to that terrain.

So moving in those elements...

was a lot more difficult than normal because your body's just not used to that environment.

It's literally muscle confusion because you're not used to running in snowshoes.

You're not used to running with certain amount of layers and then your food on your back.

This is a self-sufficient run.

So I had all my food.

I was 100 kilos starting, 85 kilos on my body weight and I had just under 15 kilos on my back with water with all my food.

And...

That's not a normal training environment.

Your body's not used to that.

So after day one, you're physically broken.

And then the next 80, 180 kilometers, 170 kilometers, it's mental.
