It was my birthday that evening, so I was looking forward to going home and celebrating a bit of a birthday party with my family.
This changed everything.
I said,
why did you do it?
And he just mentioned money was the thing I noted, you know.
And he said, I've ruined everything.
That was things I kind of remember, you know.
When I asked him where did it happen, he said to me, it happened 10 kilometres outside Castle Bar, near, he just said, Abbey.
And he says, you can see what I did with the rope.
I reported back immediately from the scene to the chief's clerk because I felt this was very relevant to trying to establish where the actual crime may have been committed.

And I mentioned Ballantubber Abbey to the chief's clerk from the scene as a possible area of interest.

He wasn't panicking in any way.
You could say he was maybe in a state of shock.
As if...
It may not have hit him what had actually happened yet, or then again, it may have.
So when he was officially arrested and brought to Westford Garden Station and detained, I would have had to go in on an interview to put to him what he had said to me at the scene.
He agreed with everything he said that he said to me at the scene was correct and he didn't dispute any of it.
