They're not interested in sort of playing into what they would view as sort of an unfair targeting
of Pelosi and an investigation of Pelosi.
And so, you know, in order for that amendment to go down, Hawley had to vote with Democrats because ultimately the bill passed with just his support and the support of the Democrats on the committee.
And so he had to sort of work with them.
I think that's why the bill includes the president and the vice president in the first place.
Many of these bills do not.
But I think he had to work with the Democrats to sort of broaden this, to apply it to the president and vice president.
Well, so she did issue a statement of support for this bill earlier today, which I actually was not expecting.
But I think that she has sort of felt, or at least her political operation, whoever, has felt that it's important for her to reaffirm, you know, many times over that, like, she supports a stock trading ban.
And I think part of that is that, you know, maybe there is some fear that given the way that the Trump administration has shown a willingness to go after folks, that maybe she is vulnerable to being sort of, I mean, again, to the effect of like, I mean, Trump said earlier today that like she should be investigated for her stock trading, right?
And so I think she's trying to get on sort of the popular side of the issue.
But yes, the Pelosi Act was the name of Josh Hawley's original bill.
It's technically not the name of the bill that passed the committee, but you know.
He introduced the Pelosi Act, and I forget what it stands for, but it's an acronym, as sort of a dig at Pelosi, because I think for a lot of folks on the right that she's sort of this figure that symbolizes the corruption.
yeah no it's i mean that's certainly the big irony in all of this right and i think this has been something that the right has been interested in for a long time in part because you have this figure of nancy pelosi who you know had maybe there's some questionable trades there right i mean there's there's there is a genuine sort of conflict of interest issue there i mean not so much now um but when she was speaker like i think there's a fair case to be made for that
But it is at this point, you know, especially when you're talking about extending these requirements to the presidency, where you're actually also going to be banning Trump from trading stocks if this if this bill passes.
You know, I think that explains why he would come out so strongly against this today, because once it becomes clear, like, oh, this isn't just about Congress, like this is about me and this is about the vice president.
He would sort of be singing a different tune.
And so, yeah, I mean, there's there's there's lots of ironies in all this.
