I mean, this passed eight to seven.
Whereas, you know, when you look at public polling on this issue, it's like something like 70 something, 80 percent of Americans support banning members of Congress from trading stocks.
So there are a few issues that Republicans had with the bill.
Ron Johnson, who is sort of a plastics manufacturing executive before he was elected to the Senate, said that this requirement of sort of divestiture and banning people from trading stocks was
would discourage people who are business people, people from the private sector, from running for office.
Senator Rand Paul said that existing laws were basically sufficient to guard against sort of blatant insider trading.
And then there was the matter of this bill applying to the president himself.
And what was obviously interesting, and this wasn't included in that version of the article because it only happened in the last hour or so,
is that Trump came out against this bill and he called Holly a second tier senator.
And he basically argued, as Senator Rick Scott did as well, that Democrats would use this bill to go after him.
Yeah, there's a lot in that statement, right?
But yeah, I mean, what happened was Rick Scott sort of put forward this thing, which I basically view it as kind of a poison pill sort of effort, right?
He wanted to put forward this amendment that would direct the Government Accountability Office to conduct a review of
of Paul Pelosi.
It's, you know, it's her husband who makes all these trades.
Paul Pelosi's trades over the last 25 years, you know, basically under the premise that, you know, there was something suspicious there, that insider information was used because, you know, I mean, to be fair, like Paul Pelosi's trades have been the subject of a lot of scrutiny over time.
And Nancy Pelosi, I guess at this point it was probably almost four years ago, was opposed to a stock trading ban.
She's since changed her mind about that, but she initially was against this.
Hawley and the Democrats voted against Rick Scott's amendment because Democrats aren't interested in going after Pelosi, right?
I mean, they're interested in banning stock trading.
