It's bad for inflation and bad for growth.
Yeah.
And that shock is already – it's very, very hard to avoid that shock.
I think that shock is already underway.
There's not a lot policymakers can do about it in the short term.
It does be the question of what do you do with interest rates at this point, which I think is another question.
Well, inflation is by definition just a broad-based – is a broad-based rise in the price of goods and services.
And it's a rise that happens over time.
It's not just a one-off increase in prices.
So, you know, and if you end up with higher inflation, it means that –
the prices for a whole range of different goods and services are accelerating.
Now, generally speaking, under sort of more normal economic cycles, if the economy is growing very strongly or if demand is very, very strong and the rate of growth in demand is faster than the rate of growth in supply, that tends to put upward pressure on prices and it tends to mean that you get faster inflation.
This time around, it's very much a supply side shock.
So you've still got the demand there, but the supply of a whole range of different things is being restricted.
And so the price of those things is going to be forced up.
And petrol is the most obvious one.
But it feeds into plastics, it feeds into food, fertilizer, even technology and electronics potentially.
Because, for example, to make semiconductors, I think the cooling mechanisms that you use in that manufacturing process rely on helium.
A lot of that helium comes from the Gulf.
So there's a lot of tanks full of helium sitting on a dock in Qatar waiting to be shipped to Asia.
