I remember coming back, I went to Las Vegas with a bunch of friends and I remember being in the airport, being super hungover and getting this phone call from like the MLB executive editor that was like, you have the internship, you're the only one who selected Tampa, the Rays at that time.
had been just absolutely dreadful.
They were an expansion franchise, had never won, had never had a winning season, had never been to the playoffs.
I picked them as my number one team.
I am from Connecticut.
I could have done the New York teams, but I figured that there was going to be like the creme de la creme people were going to want those jobs.
And I had an aunt who lived in Bradenton, Florida.
She said I could live with her.
It was about 30, 35 minutes to Tropicana Field.
And I was like, well, if I pick them, like maybe I'll get it, you know?
And which is exactly what happened.
I got the raise and I got the internship.
And multiple people said to me at that time, take the job like the internship ends.
You know, the internship is only good as long as the season is.
The rates are not very good.
You're going to get buried.
But again, I and I respected that.
But to me, the opportunity to be around a big league team, to have my byline established.
for a big league team, even if they weren't a good big league team, I figured I could always go back and apply for those entry level jobs and that this was something that like, OK, let's try this.
