I mean, I think there's still lots of clandestine cockpits.

You know, it's funny because I haven't been to one either.

But it was interesting, like when that piece came out in Harper's,

I read at least one or two sermons that were written based on the piece that were talked about the blood of the, of the cock.

And, you know, it is like, it's a deep old cultural thread, you know, in American culture and certainly Southeast Asian and Caribbean culture.

It had a thing on noodling.

There was a piece where I hung out with modern-day moonshiners and with ATF folks who were hunting them down.

I kind of went back and forth between the two groups.

I did a piece on frog farming.

I did a piece on coon hunting.

The whole way I got into the book was I was living in Cambridge, Massachusetts, kind of missing Oklahoma a bit, and I wanted to get a coon house.
