Yeah, so there are two things to say.
I think this is exactly right.
The first thing to say
is that, so we have like one of the big answers now, I think that we've been stumbling around for.
So the answer isn't the metrics are bad.
The answer is that every metric represents a specific set of interests and highlights a specific set of features and expresses a particular value system.
So for example, our intelligence measures express the value of logical and abstract thinking is important.
Emotional artistic thinking is unimportant.
That's embedded in that system.
I'm not saying that's bad.

The tools you're using, if you think they're just neutral representations of the world, if you forget that they represent specific interests and already represent a prior focus of attention, maybe that's one way to put it.
There are decisions about what to attend to and what's worth paying attention to and what's worth remembering and what's worth noticing built in.

And they can be used well when you are aware of the biases and interests of each of your tools, and you're willing to select the right tool for the job.
