Giving your time a job.
For the most part, what I try to do is I work and then finish.
So I'd rather just finish work earlier than work a full day with more breaks in it.
I'll have a variety of work, like, okay, go write, do a bunch of small tasks, go to this meeting, shut these things down, do this final interview and be done for the day.
My thought is when I'm working, I'm working.
When I'm not, I'm not.
Be very intentional when I'm working.
but also be very generous to myself.
And if I'm going to do that, don't try to schedule eight or nine hour days because humans can't really work all out all day, all year.
That's very unnatural.
We need a lot more variety.
Now, in a pseudo productivity environment, you can pad your work with lots of busyness and you can fill out eight hours every day.
But once you start to remove that from your life, your schedule, just in terms of the length of time you're working, it gets pretty varied.
You know, there's days you're not working that much and other days you're working more.
So when it's really just getting down to trying to just do the things that are really important, you have a lot more variation in what a workday looks like.
I mean, a lot of it's time with my kids.
I rarely, if ever, work past five because I want to make sure of maximizing that time.
And often it's earlier because there'll be coaching or other things that are going on.
So time with family is a big one for me.
I read a lot.
