legitimate farm businesses so they can adapt and remain viable.

Every new restriction makes it harder for farming families to keep going and pushes rural Loudoun closer to becoming an enclave of estate homes instead of a place where farms can thrive.

Successful farm-based businesses are the best tool we have to preserve this land and the rural character we all value.

I hear this all the time, and we deal with these little kind of issues that have arisen, staff is well aware of them, in my office on a regular basis,

the bulk of rural Loudoun, which we're discussing here, is in the Catoctin District.

And I have a whole list of these issues that have come up.

But for me, big picture wise, we really want to incentivize farms.

We want to incentivize ag production.

We want to incentivize small cottage industries.

And so when I think what staff is talking about here, and correct me if I'm wrong, in terms of flexibility is really

looking at our ordinance and saying, okay, when we have one of these types of businesses come in, how do we ensure that they can get done what they can get done, not at a major expense, but also still obviously preserving what we love in our steep slope.
