What proportion of the population might have those traits that you talked about that would allow them to thrive creatively during boredom?
So given I'd responded more positively to boredom during isolation than Sana did, we both completed an online test that Dr.
Park and her collaborators built to measure these traits.
So Sana, what did you score on these four different personality traits, your openness to experience, your learning goal orientation, your need for cognition, and your locus of control?
Okay, well I scored um either very high or or quite high across all of those trades.
No, of of course not.
I mean, all personality traits are kind of a double edged sword.
They can be good or bad in different situations.
Yeah, so it sounds like based on those scores, I would be more oriented towards so called epistemic motivation.
And that tends to mean that I think a lot about things, but I don't necessarily do a lot of things.
So it's not all good.
But it would mean that maybe I am the sort of personality who could benefit from boredom.
Yeah, exactly.
It's hard to quantify someone's openness to experience, for example.
So take these findings with a grain of salt.
And remember, another potential complication with data like this is that Dr.
Park's study aimed to isolate and study boredom by itself.
But in the real world, we're often feeling a combination of many things.
So during a stretch of isolation, for example, there's a good chance that you might be feeling.
frustrated as well as bored, or you might be angry at losing access to other things in your life.
