For us as well we talk about not necessarily writing your name or doing all those but even recognising their name because
It belongs to us.
You know, our name belongs to us, which is a visual thing.
But when it comes to print, it's really great if children can begin to say, oh, that could be mine because it has that funny shape.
Oh, that could be my name.
You know, so we know that a lot of four and five year olds find it tricky to identify even their name.
So even if we start with their name, it's a great thing.
We don't say to parents have alphabet magnets in your fridge and flashcards because you know what?
They're not ready, and they're probably not really that interested.
If they are, great.
Like you mentioned, we all want the best for our children as parents.
We want them to feel successful.
But there's actually no research out there that would say, oh, if you've got your child reading at three and a half or four, they're going to be doing better and good than any child when they're in year 10 or 12.
