If we're working with um a teacher, I know we're we talk about kids on this site, but if you were working with a teacher on this, this would be things like having a microphone while they're teaching so they don't have to yell.

Um using preventative strategies across environments and using proper breathing techniques throughout the day.

So those are the levels for the foundations of healthy voice use.

Now the next curriculum is our resonance or nasality.

So this is going to be if their voice sounds too nasal, like they have a stuffy nose, or if it sounds like they are talking through their nose.

You might hear air puffing or rattling in the nose when they talk.

Or you might notice that their speech sounds weak or muffled, especially on sounds like P, T, and K.

Those are ones that really require us to build up a lot of pressure inside our mouth.

So if there's air leaking out through the nose, it's hard to get a good p pop on those P T and K sounds.

Okay, so for this one we have three levels as well.

Our beginner level is developing awareness and discrimination.

So we just start off by having them discriminate between oral and hypernasal resonance.

So when we say mmm, the air all comes out our nose.

When we say e the air all comes out our mouth.

So being able to tell the difference of where the air is going is our first level.

For the intermediate level, then we're going to be using oral resonance in structured tasks.

So then we are helping give them strategies to make sure the air is coming out of their mouth and not out their nose.

And we are helping them gradually increase their ability to do that in longer and longer speech tasks.
