This is how we process information.

This is how we assimilate multiple perspectives and concepts and thought processes.

And to be perfectly honest, if you also then think in big pictures, if you also see all of the connections between different pieces of research or insights or connections between different disciplines or systems thinking, then hey, presto, you've got a lot in your head.

that you're wanting to explain.

So that verbal processing is a key driver of why I ramble, what other people would call rambling, is why I ramble and why I have a lot of words.

The other reason I ramble, and I'm going to talk about how I manage both of these in a sec, so stick with me.

The other reason I ramble is when I'm working hard to convince people that my opinion or my perspective is credible.

As someone who assimilates a lot of information, I often don't know where my perspectives or where my professional opinions come from and if I'm feeling like I need to defend my position, then I will try to find the evidence to back up the opinion that I've already formed and

And so I'll look for authoritative sources to validate my opinions.

Sometimes I'll go back and look at the stuff that I've read and kind of then bring it forward.

And the problem with that then is if I'm explaining that to somebody who's asked me a very straightforward question of tell us your opinion on this, Kat, and, you know, 10 minutes later I've mentioned all of the different scientific studies and all of the research and all of the insights and all the papers and all the books,

Is it any wonder that they just kind of stare at me blankly?

And of course, what does that blank stare do to me if I'm trying to convince them?

It actually makes me feel even more insecure.

And so what do I do?

I go down even more tangents, even more rabbit holes.

I go for even more minute detail.

I'm kind of imagining that as you're listening, you're kind of nodding and going, yeah, this sounds familiar.
