As you're bouncing around all of the different things, they might not understand it all, but they can see how you think.

And I think this is ridiculously powerful, particularly if you have felt all of your life that people don't understand how you think.

And so having somebody witness how you reach a conclusion, well, that helps them next time we're in this conversation, right?

So signaling it.

But what do you do then?

What do you do if you can't signal?

What do you do if you just need to land the message?

Well, if I'm put on the spot and I do need to say something then and there and I can't say, can I have a couple of days to think about it or whatnot, what I will do is I will think, what is the message that I want to land that makes sense for my listener?

What's in it for them?

Where do I need to take them?

And then I ask myself very quickly, this is all an internal dialogue perspective, where are they now?

And how do I bridge that gap between where I want to take them and where they are now?

Now, this is really good training for my very detailed, sometimes rambly and connecting all the dots and connecting all the pictures mine, because what I will realize in that moment is that they don't need all of the things that I can see.

They just need the bridge.

They just need the step.

And that step for them will be self-interested because as human beings, we are self-interested.

So I would just very quickly ask myself, what is it that I need to say or what is the message they need to hear that will take them from where they are now to where I want them to be?

And I'll focus on that.

I'll infer the detail rather than give them all the detail and I'll give them space to ask follow-up questions so I can keep explaining if I need to.
