Ohio State's one of a few programs in college football that can afford to do this.
And they're coming off of a year where they made record revenue, over $366 million that they brought in across the athletic department.
And some of that makes up for some losses the previous year.
But then also, I'm thinking that they can kind of buy on margin a little bit, expecting what this football season's going to look like.
They have those two non-conference openers against Kent State,
But then they also have games against Illinois.
They have that game against Oregon.
They have a game against Northwestern, which has some intrigue with Chip Kelly returning to the horseshoe.
And then you've got the Michigan game.
10-2 team, are they going to be a team that gets a first-round playoff game at home again like they did a couple of years ago against Tennessee?
They're going to be making a lot of money this year that –
if it's going to go anywhere, it should probably go into the program that's making the most of that revenue, being football.
So if you've got the money to do it, I think you've got to give yourself the best opportunity to win those games.
I'm not saying that Ohio State's going into this year expecting that they're going to end it 10-2.
I think they're trying to win every single game.
Ryan Day reminds us almost every press conference that if you don't think winning is important at Ohio State, try losing a game and see how the fans react.
But
I do think that it does put Ohio State in a position here to get the most out of the money that it's making.
And if they have the opportunity to add extra coaches that don't have to hit the road to recruit and can just focus solely on their responsibility, I think that gives them a great edge on the rest of college football.
Unfortunately, I'm going to hurt you by saying that I would get rid of the spring game.
