The whole idea that she is rubbing her daughter's back the same way she dusts a table, which is the only thing in the house that the housekeeper doesn't dust, speaks volumes about both the mother and the mother-daughter relationship.

And this is also a book that I wrote in an alchemic frenzy of 90 days.
This is a book that is a wash in autobiography.
I was a caddy.
I am a novelist of a certain age.
There is a lot of me in both the dead caddy, Kenny Foster, and a lot of me in Mira Winston, the novelist.
For example, the novelist is known best for books about functional alcoholic flight attendants and midwives on trial for manslaughter.
That kind of Easter egg is there by design.
So when I am writing about the late 1970s or the late 1980s,
Just like Mira, I am writing a first person recollections or I am writing scenes that I am made up that are deeply colored by my own first person experiences.
Whether that is Grand Central in 1979 or Amherst or Smith College in 1981.
