I went to Amherst, my wife went to Smith.

The words that we were using when we were so very young then were very different from the words that we use now in 2026.

So yes, I pulled no punches in the amateur.

I love the book.

And I love Mira Winston, the character, my doppelganger.

But as Mira says at one point, I fear you don't like me.

That's fine.

Very often, I don't like myself.

And yes, and then one of the other things Mira says in the book is, and this is for all of you in book groups, and I'm grateful to all of you in book groups who read my books.

But as you are sipping your wine and you're debating whether I'm a reliable or unreliable narrator, let that go.

I am reliable as fuck.

I'm honestly not sure whether the name Mira came first or Mira Land came first.

But one of the issues that Mira, my narrator, has is this.

Magical thinking.

Unbelievable magical thinking.

She equates her killing, even if it is accidental, her killing Kenny Foster as the price she has to pay for her own misbehavior and misadventures as a teenager, including sleeping with a married man.

punishment.

But she was always the kind of kid, or as a little girl, was capable of punishing herself.

For example, taking her favorite chair and placing it in the dining room in a corner and putting herself into time out for reasons that her own mom and dad have no explanation for.
